Herbal remedies can be easily made by you at home! While many people do, you don't have to grow your own herbs. However, if you would like to your own herbs, that's a process that you could easily do as well. Homemade herbal remedies are often made by first buying dried herbs in bulk or herbal capsules and opening them, then mixing a combination of the herbs.
If you want to seriously go all-natural and grow your own herbs you can ensure that no toxic fertilizers or pesticides are used during their growth or preparation. Starting from seeds will of course take time to get to the point that you have herbs ready to use. So, if you want to grow your own and you are looking for an immediate homemade herbal remedy, you may want to plant your garden and buy some herbs in bulk. That way you will be able to do both!
If you plan to grow your own herbs, make sure you follow the growing instructions to get the best results. If you want to go organic, it is entirely in your power! Organic compost makes for great fertilizer. There are also organic methods to control pests and weeds. Once your herbs have matured and they are ready to use, you should check to see which herbs need to be dried before they are used and which ones you can use straight from the garden. Also, only some parts of herbs are usable. You may wind up only using the leaves, the flower, or the root. It's always a good idea to research the remedies you intend to make along with the herbs that you'll need to make it.
Drying the herbs can be done a number of different ways. The most common method is to begin by making small bundles of the fresh cut herbs. Make sure they aren't too big or the herbs will take forever to dry and grow mold. Next, wrap the bottom ends the bottom ends together with a rubber band. Twine and elastic bands don't work that well, so a rubber band is the way to go. Then, hang the herbs in a dry, dark place with the stems pointing upwards. Air circulation is also important, so make sure there is plenty of room between the branches. The herbs should be dry sometime in the time frame of five days and a couple of weeks depending on the kind of herbs. The herbs should be taken down when they are just about dry, before they become brittle. Last, remove the leaves from the stems and store them in a glass air-tight container.
If you would prefer to jump right in rather than wait for your herbs to grow, you can order dried herbs in bulk online. You may also have access to dried herbs at a local store depending on where you live. In order to easily consume your homemade remedy, be sure to get empty gel capsules and a capsule filling machine (this thing makes things SO much easier!).
As an example, if you were in the market for a great virus and cold remedy, you should grab some Licorice Root, Echinacea, Ginger Root, and Goldenseal. Next, mix them in equal parts and fill the gel capsules. Then, you're ready to take them and start feeling better!
Making homemade herbal remedies is an inexpensive and safe way to give your immune system the boost it needs and help you feel better. Enjoy the benefits of natural living, you're body will thank you for it!
